CD-ROM

The CD-ROM consists of four sections:

  • About this resource
  • Why teach cineliteracy?
  • Getting started
  • Teaching cineliteracy.

About this resource explains the background to the project and how to use the resource.

Why teach cineliteracy? provides a rationale for school communities to implement cineliteracy as a strategy to improve literacy through increased student engagement.

Getting started provides information for schools to prepare for and plan a cineliteracy project. It includes a whole school approach, technical tips, copyright information and provides a model for teachers to plan units of work.

Teaching cineliteracy provides teachers with background information, teaching and learning ideas and activity sheets to teach the critical processes of reading and writing the screen in the classroom. It also includes a glossary and additional resources.

DVD

The DVD is designed to support the teaching of cineliteracy in the classroom and can be used to develop student, teacher and parent understanding of key cineliteracy concepts in conjunction with the activities in the Teaching materials section of the CD-ROM. The DVD is divided into three sections:

  • Reading the screen
  • Writing the screen
  • Student-produced films.

Reading the screen contains excerpts of films made by students as part of PSFP cineliteracy projects from 2001-2005. These excerpts are colour coded to relate specifically to activities in focus areas one and two in the Teaching materials section of this CD-ROM.

Writing the screen also contains excerpts of films made by students as part of PSFP cineliteracy projects from 2001-2005. These excerpts are colour coded to relate specifically to activities in focus areas four and five in the Teaching materials section of this CD-ROM.

Student-produced films contains 13 complete short films made by students from Years K-10 as part of the PSFP cineliteracy project from 2001-2005. These films cover a range of genres from documentary to claymation and demonstrate the work produced by schools as a result of their participation in cineliteracy projects.
