About this resource

The resource, Building professional learning communities: a resource to support professional learning in Priority Schools, reflects the findings of the Aligning Quality Teaching and Assessment project. It features teachers and consultants reporting on school projects and the strengths of the action learning model in implementing positive professional learning in the school community.

The resource consists of:

  • the report on the Aligning Quality Teaching and Assessment project.
The report can be used to guide school leaders in developing effective professional learning programs. It also provides a model to evaluate those programs, with evidence of successful strategies provided by teachers and consultants.
  • professional learning modules (2 X 1 hour workshops) These workshop materials provide ideas, focus questions and information that can be used to promote individual, group and whole school community discussion and planning for professional learning. Video excerpts of teachers and consultants discussing their professional learnings are embedded in the workshops. The modules could be used in stage and faculty teams, staff meetings and parents workshops.

The participants recount their experiences from the project on:

  • their professional learning and
  • the processes that facilitated their change in practice for improved teaching and learning.

The findings have relevance for all teachers in Priority Schools. In particular, there are key messages for schools and teachers engaged in professional learning focusing on improving the quality of teaching and learning and making a difference for student learning.
